Frequently Asked Questions
How much do services cost?
The costs depend on the specific service you receive.
Do I need an appointment to receive services?
Although appointments are not required, we recommend scheduling an appointment whenever possible. This helps us make sure you receive the time and attention you deserve.
Do you offer same-day translation services?
Not always. Please visit our office with the document first so we can review it, confirm that it is readable, and provide information about cost and turnaround time.
What can I do if I need food for myself and my family?
You may visit our office, where we will assist you with food support sponsored by Loaves and Fishes. We also offer home-delivered meals for older adults.
If I need food assistance, do I need to visit in person?
Yes. If this is your first time requesting food assistance, an in-person visit is required so we can take the time to explain how the program works and how we can best support you.
Can I receive household items or clothing at LAC?
We do not distribute household items or clothing at our office. However, we can help connect you with resources and services available in the county.
Can I receive free health services the same day?
Not exactly. The Virtual Clinic through Atrium Health is available at a low cost, but appointments are required.
Free vaccination events with Novant Health are offered once a month and by appointment only.
Can you help me apply for federal benefits, such as food stamps or disability benefits?
No. At this time, we are not able to help complete applications for federal benefits. These processes must be handled directly through the appropriate federal offices. We are happy to provide guidance on where to go.
Do you offer free English classes?
No. At this time our English class registration has closed. Please continue to check our calendar and social media for our next session.
I want to enroll my children in school. What should I do?
At the FWC, we help with CMS and Pre-K enrollment applications. Call us at (704)-531-3848 to schedule n appointment so we may guide you.
What is the Community ID, and what is it used for?
The Community ID is an identification card offered by the Coalition as part of the Interfaith Action Network. It is a verifiable form of identification that can be used by law enforcement and other community agencies to identify you, provide services, and ensure your safety.
